My Virtual "Find-a-Grave" Cemetery

I have enjoyed visiting the gravesites of our family's ancestors as part of my genealogy research. In order to help preserve and share this information, I have loaded many tombstone photographs into the archive at the Find-A-Grave website. Included below is a convenient list of links to the individual Find-a-Grave pages for my family's ancestors.

This started out as a list of graves I had visited myself or had planned to visit on some future roadtrip. But in 2017 I made the unfortunate mistake of setting out to add family tree information that other people had added to Find-a-Grave and it quickly turned into a huge mountain of work. The effort spun off a life of its own and I sort of regret undertaking the task, but what's done is done. In the future I hope to continue to add new personal discoveries. But I'll never do a large-scale update like this again (unless some future AI assistant will do it for me).

The sections below are presented as my children's ancestors so they also include my wife's family as well. A copy of our family tree back through several generations can be found at wikitree.

  • OK, that is quite enough of that!

I'd just like to add that I'm not trying to make some kind of special claim with these links to the nobility of times long past. If you know me you know that I value getting by on personal merit and honest grit rather than entitlement. That said, there are aspects of these connections that I find enriching, as I've tried to outline below.

  • As an armchair historian I believe knowledge of these family connections adds an extra depth to my interest when learning about historical events.
  • And as an avid traveler, knowledge of these connections gives me a much more colorful experience when I'm visiting some place that was important to my ancestors.
  • And as a scientifically-inclined person, I look at the large number of generations involved and the exponential growth in ancestor count with every generation and figure that everyone with Western European ancestry (except perhaps the Basques & Jews) could very likely make similar claims if the necessary research was undertaken (for example, this discussion I just found affirms my theory). And it is by recalling this level of common connectivity that I appreciate that everyone is, in the end, my own cousin.

  • I built a Factory Five replica of a 1965 Shelby Cobra. It was a really great experience and I learned a lot. Here are some graduation pictures:
  • I'm trying to learn a little about Bitcoin. If the genealogy research I've done has helped you make your own interesting family discoveries and you'd like to buy me a cup of coffee, I'd appreciate the opportunity to practice. Thanks. If you'd like to buy some Bitcoin yourself, Swan Bitcoin has a great way to set up dollar-cost averaging through regular automatic purchases.
