An English Sonnet

The sonnet you see, has fourteen lines,
And is a challenge to the literary art.
To write one easily in modern times
Takes some talent on the poet's part.

Be it the English or Italian you demand,
Either makes lyrical the heartfelt themes,
For the powers at a scribe's command,
Dictate lyrics & rhymes by set schemes.

Quatrain & couplet are usual variations,
But whatever musical stanza and cadence,
It will create the desired sensations,
When cast in the traditional sequence.

And what price for such poetic flowers?
It's a bargain at just two silver dollars.
