The Primary Mirror Truss: Constructed by Mero Industries of Wurzburg, Germany, the truss is formed of high-strength steel tubing with forged, laser welded end caps as struts, and CNC-machined forged nodes threaded to make the connections. Precision of manufacture was so close that all top nodes were measured to be within 2.5 mm of the design position during acceptance testing. The truss has subsequently been powder-coated and shipped to the HET site and reassembled. There is one 1-meter hexagonal mirror for each set of three nodes in the top surface. The truss is 11 meters in diameter (point to point).
