This is a bibliography for Disney's "The Little Mermaid", covering books and also articles in periodicals. Thanks to Amberle Ferrian for all of her contributions to this bibliography, including many of the periodical articles. Additions, suggestions and comments are welcome. (Last revised: 31 May 1995) ***** BOOKS ***** (Please note: There are *lots* of children's TLM books, adaptations, etc. - too many to try to list all of them here. But some of the more notable ones will be included.) 1. Disney's Animated Feature -Clements, Ron and John Musker: "The Little Mermaid" (fourth draft, 09 July 1987), Walt Disney Pictures, Glendale?, 1987 (ISBN: none). This is the fourth draft of the script for "The Little Mermaid", and is available from some of the companies that carry movie scripts. While this is close to final form, there are some interesting differences between this draft and what appeared on the screen. -Ebert, Roger: "Roger Ebert's Movie Home Companion, 1994 Edition", Andrews and McMeel, Kansas City, 1993 (ISBN: 0-8362-6244-1). Includes a lengthy review of "The Little Mermaid", which also appears in earlier editions. -Fanning, Jim: "The Disney Poster: The Animated Film Classics from Mickey Mouse to Aladdin", Hyperion, New York, 1993 (ISBN: 1-56282-924-6). Has a number of posters for both shorts and features (although many features aren't included), including the movie poster for TLM. -Grant, John: "Encyclopedia of Walt Disney's Animated Characters" (updated edition), Hyperion, New York, 1993 (ISBN: 1-56282-904-1). For every animated feature up through "Beauty and the Beast" (including "The Little Mermaid") the author includes the credits, a discussion of the movie, a summary of the story, and discussions of the movie's characters. -Johnston, Ollie and Frank Thomas: "The Disney Villain", Disney Press, New York, 1993 (ISBN: 1-56282-792-8). Includes a section on "The Little Mermaid", featuring Ursula and a number of pre-production sketches. (I haven't seen this book in stores lately, but I'm guessing this is correct. If you can check this, it'd sure help.) -Magill, Frank N. (ed.): "Magill's Cinema Annual 1990", Salem Press, Pasadena, 1990 (ISBN: 0-89356-409-5). Includes a review of "The Little Mermaid", and a list of reviews in various periodicals. -Ozer, Jerome S. (adaptation by): "Disney's The Little Mermaid", Disney Press, New York, 1993 (ISBN: 1-56282-429-5). This has the same text as the junior novelization, but is a nice hardcover with a dust jacket and illustrations by Ron Dias and Philo Barnhart. -Thomas, Bob: "Disney's Art of Animation: From Mickey Mouse to Beauty and the Beast", Hyperion, New York, 1991 (ISBN: 1-56282-997-1, hardcover; 1-56282-899-1, paperback). The first part of the book is a history of Disney animation (including a couple of pages on TLM), and the second part is a detailed treatment of the making of "Beauty and the Beast". -no author given: "The Art of The Little Mermaid", Sotheby's, New York, 1990 (ISBN: 0-9622588-1-4). This is the Sotheby's catalog for their auction of TLM art, which consisted of original background paintings and cels. Introduction, and pictures of the 283 lots. (I think these were actual cels and not reproductions; I'll have to go back and check ...) -no author given: "Disney's The Little Mermaid: A Postcard Book", Running Press, Philadelphia, 1991 (ISBN: 1-56138-042-3). Contains a short introduction, and 30 postcards with art from the movie (some of the pictures have been flipped left-to-right). -no author given: "Disney's How to draw The Little Mermaid", Walter Foster Publ., Tustin, CA, 1992 (ISBN: 1-56010-110-5, hardcover; 1-56010-161-X, paperback).
