40th Reunion planning mentioned

IIf you are on facebook, you might want to check out this page.  There are the beginnings of some rumblings regarding a reunion for several of the early 1970's reunion including some suggesting a combined reunion.  Might stop in if you are interested.

50th Birthday Party For Class of 1971 Planned

This just in from Skip Inskip:

Pat please look on the website for my e-mail about a 50th class birthday party Dec. 26th at Fat City.  I just read the note from Dave Sholem about having a thirtieth reunion- we did have one dispite a vote that I was not aware of, and we had a great time!

You can check in with Skip at: Inskip4@insightbb.com.  Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend as I have a grandchild on the way that may make an appearance around that time.  While I will miss seeing all you guys, my daughter would kill me if I missed the birth!

Let me in on all the juicy details afterwards, ok?

Another Classmate Found

Well, another classmate has popped up out of the blue. I just got an email message from Dinah Daniels (a.k.a. "Sam Daniels" during her high school days). Sam provided me with a current email address for her, which I added to our email page. Also, she expressed an interest in finding Zoe Hale (possibly "Zoe Johnson" now. If anyone knows where Zoe is, please drop a note to Sam (...and to ME as well. I would love to know what happened to her, too!)

Informal 30th Reunion Planned

First, an apology.  The May 15, 2001 and June 16, 2001 updates did not show up on the web site.  Apparently, the files did not get updated after they were editted due to a files permissions problem.  At any rate, if you are reading this, the problem is resolved and I apologize to anyone that was looking for reunion updates here that did not get that information.

Ok, so I was wrong.  Apparently, Skip and Sue Inskip are attempting to set up an informal reunion on August 11, 2001.  The following email was received yesterday:

Class of '71... We are putting together an informal class reunion at Fat City Saloon on Saturday, August 11th from 7:00 PM till ????  Appetizers will be $2 per person, and you are welcome to order food off the menu at your own expense. There will be cash bar. Big Bang Theory band will be playing,  there is a $3 cover charge for the band at 9:00 (Bob Patton- class of '69 plays in the band). Fat City Saloon is at 505 S. Locust  in Champaign (located down the alley behind Hollywood Video - formerly Katsinas Restaurant).  Questions, call Skip or Sue at (217)352-2084, or call Murray Outlaw at the Fat City Saloon  @ (217) 356-7100. We do not have many e-mail addresses, so Please forward this e-mail and pass the word to all of the classmates that you have contact with.  We would love to see a big turn-out and put plans in motion for the next reunion. It would nice to have an approximate count of how many people will be coming, so please let us know by phone or e-mail (inskip4@home.com) if you can come.  We will not be sending a formal invitation at this late date!!   So, spread the word and....let's paaarrrty!!! Skip & Sue Inskip

Addendum to 30th Reunion (Non)Plans

According to a classmate that sent me an email, Dave Sholem was asked about the 30th reunion and he indicated that at the 25th reunion, a vote was taken, the results of which were that no reunion would be held for the 30th.  The next reunion would be the 35th to be held in 2006.  While I don't recall that vote at the 25th, whether this is correct or the explanation posted on May 15, 2001 is, I think this pretty much puts the nail in the coffin regarding having a reunion this year.

30th Reunion Not Planned For This Year

I have recieved a number of questions regarding whether there will be a 30th reunion this year.  It appears that there will not be.  According to some classmates that emailed me, the people that organized the 25th (and possibily earlier reunions as well) have stepped aside with regard to planning the 30th reunion.  Although, apparently, there has been some interest from other classmates, no one has stepped forward and taken the reins with regard to the planning of a 30th reunion.  Consequently, nothing has been planned for this year.

From Russ Gillen:

Thanks for the congrats on the birth of my grandson.  His name is James Michael Colleen.  Yep he was little when he was born, but now 9 months later he is catching up to where he should be.  Judy is doing real good.  We are really enjoying being grandparents.  It's hard to believe my daughter is old enough to be a mom.  It's even harder to believe I'm old enough to be a grandpa.

April 3, 1999

Finally, someone sent in some news to report! (Thanks to Julia Mettauer Brenner for the updates)

First, some sad news.  From the March 31, 1999 News-Gazette:

Carl Nelson
CHAMPAIGN – Carl Leonard Nelson, 71, of North Fort Myers, Fla., who served as the assistant principal at Champaign Central High School for 22 years, died Sunday (March 28, 1999) at Lee Memorial Hospital, Fort Myers.  A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, North Fort Myers.

Then, some good news!  According to Julia, Russ Gillen became a grandfather last Friday (March 23, 1999) with a 3lb. 5oz. baby boy!  Way to go, Russ!  How about some details and/or photos, Russ?  (By the way, just click on the link to send Russ your congratulations!)

Also, Julia sent me some news about some sad events in a few of our classmates' lives.  However, since I no idea if those classmates want that information deseminated, I will defer posting it.

July 30, 1996

This is will be devoted to any and all news regarding the class of `71. Anything that would be of interest to the class of '71 is fair game -- marriages, divorces, births, deaths, new jobs, class news, etc. I can even include photos, if you have them. If you have anything that you would like to submit, please email me and I'll include it on this page.

I would like to take a minute to thank all our classmates that were involved in setting up our recent 25th reunion held over the 4th of July weekend, particularly Gloria Baker and Debbie Cooper Griest. I, for one, had a great time and am already looking forward to the 30th reunion to be held in 2001(!). If you feel the same, please take a minute and send 'em an email and let them know.
