The American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) FAQ
I just wanted you to be aware that both Baltimore, MD and Washington,
D.C. are considering new proposals seeking to ban "pit bulls". D.C.
Council member Jim Graham proposed bill #B14-0044 two weeks ago. The
legislation intends to prohibit the importation, sale, or possession of
pit bulls in Washington, D.C. Last week, after a man murdered a pit
bull owner who refused to fight his dog, Councilman Graham said that the
incident underscores the need for his legislation. No date has been set
for a public hearing.
Similar legislation is under consideration in Baltimore City. In the
wake of a pit bull attack on a 7 year old girl, Baltimore City Council
member Agnes Welch has proposed two bills (01-0344 and 01-0345) that
seek either to ban or severely restrict the ownership of "pit bull"
dogs. The council is set to hold a public hearing on this issue on
March 14, 2001 at 5:00 PM in Baltimore City Hall, room 408.
