Message-ID: <3nfgv2$nsu@alfa02.Medio.Net> I've started a new mailing list devoted to the discussion of the effective design of WWW sites. By "design" I mean things like: - The structure and organization of the web pages - Proper use of graphics, sound and video. - Working within the constraints of the media - Navigation (making sure the user doesn't get "lost") - Presentation issues - Interactivity issues (or the lack thereof) - Semantic models (i.e. brocure vs theatre vs hypertext vs ...) - Pros and cons of proposed design guidelines. WWW is still a new medium and there isn't much in the way of accepted design practices or even rules of thumb. What constitues "good" web design is still very much up in the air. When cinema was new, people simply filmed stage plays and put them on the screen. Similarly, many web sites seem to be no more than electronic brocures. WWW is capable of much more. Hopefully, a forum for discussing possible directions will lead to "better" sites that take full advantage of the medium while working within its constraints. --------------------------------------------------------------------- If anyone is interested, send mail to "web-design-request@angel.net" with the word "subscribe" in the subject line to subscribe to the list. Put nothing in the body of the message. Unsubscribing is easy. Send mail to "web-design-request@angel.net" with the word "unsubscribe" in the subject line.
