1Charlesworth reads hdws and in a footnote calls it an error for hdwm. However, the letter appears in the photograph to be a clear mem. This scribe's samek has a much flatter top, and the left "ear" on this letter has been made with a separate stroke, whereas the ears on this scribe's samek are normally made with a single stroke.Return
2Charlesworth reads h with the following footnote: "Originally twmqn; then erasure of w and curve of left leg of t to form h. Perhaps he can see an erasure on the t that I cannot. The problem with reading h is that, had the scribe been converting a t to a h he would have needed to extend the top stroke to the left beyond the allegedly altered left leg. This has not been done, and in the photograph the left leg still has a definite curvature to it. Erasure of an original w between m and t is possible, but it appears to me that the scribe retained the t. Return
