W. F. Brown, Former Road Master, Dies WESTON (Special -- Willard F. Brown 75, of Weston died Monday morning at his home after a heart attack. Brown was county road master of Umatilla County from 1925 to 1950. He had lived in Weton for the past three years. Brown was born July 1, 1885, in Mason City, Iowa. He moved to Pendleton in 1907, and in December of that same year moved to Hermiston to work for Newport Construction Co. In 1925 he became county road master of Umatilla County, remaining in that capacity until 1950 when he retired. After his retirement, he operated a store in Ukiah for four years, lived in Portland four years and in 1958 moved to Weston. Brown was a member of the Pendleton Elks Lodge No. 288. Brown is survived by his wife, Sylvia at the home in Weston; a sughter, Mrs. Julius (Mabel) Gimbal of Hermiston; step-daughter, Mrs. Barney (Juanita) Greer of Weston; two brothers, Dan Brown, Northport Neb., and Louis Brown Washington D. C.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Burns Mortuary chapel in Pendleton. Rev. Stanley Day of Weston will officiate. Ritualistic graveside services will be conducted by the Pendleton Elks Lodge. Interment will be in the Weston City Cemetery.
