In rewriting this story, I preserved the overall plotline, but I found I needed to make quite a few changes to the details. The most obvious, of course, was to assign animal species to the characters and change the descriptions to match. But there were several others, including:
The majority in the furry asphyxia group prefer MM stories, so I changed most of the characters from female to male. Pronouns often don't work in same-sex scenes, so you end up with some rather awkward-looking sentences. I changed the viewpoint from third-person (focused on the main character) to first-person. Whenever the main character is in a scene, "I" replaces "he", "me" replaces "him", etc.
And of course the clothing had to become pants and shirts instead of dresses and skirts, and other details of the description changed: attractive females needed to become attractive males.
Academy Girl has a cannibalism/vore theme, which is consistent with many of Dolcett's drawings: a certain amount of "girlmeat" is necessary to everybody's health. I couldn't just delete the cannibalism, because it's part of the characters' motivation — most women look forward to eventually having their meat eaten, though some wait until they are nearly forty before arranging their hanging or beheading.
I changed this to fur: wearing the fur of another anthro improves the immune system and makes one "lucky". This preserves the characters' motivations without getting into the squickiness of cannibalism.
In Cardaniel's story, women are usually submissive — and often slaves — and men are frequently (but not always) dominant. This is enforced on Purity Island: all women are slaves, men are free. When I rewrote the story with a male protagonist, I could have reversed the sex roles, but that didn't feel right. Instead, I made the distinction by species: prey are usually submissive, predators are more often dominant.
I found Cardaniel's style a bit formal for my taste, so I rewrote much of the description into a more "breezy" style.
